Sex toys are spectacular, and with so many options out there, it’s easy to rack up a good collection. Whether you go with more affordable models to find what you like before spending big bucks, or you go straight for luxury toys, you can build up a fun and diverse collection. However, something else to consider when investing in toys is sex toy storage!
Discretion can be important when it comes to storing your sex toys, especially if you’re not living alone. But beyond that, you’ll want to be sure you store them in such a way where they won’t break down, overheat (if charging), and will stay in tip top shape for as long as possible.
The way you store your toys can extend their lifespan (or reduce it), so it’s worth taking into consideration.
How to Store Sex Toys
Before deciding how to store your sex toys, it’s important to figure out the material of your toy(s).
Steel and glass toys are pretty much safe from anything (aside from dropping, of course). However, silicone and similar materials aren’t as safe.
There’s a rampant rumor that silicone toys will ‘melt’ if they come in contact with one another (this goes for rubber and TPE materials as well). However, as long as your toys are made from high quality premium silicone, this won’t happen. That said, it can be difficult to know if a brand uses premium silicone, so it’s better to be safe than sorry.
So regardless, we recommend storing toys individually, both for hygiene purposes and to avoid any issues with non-premium silicone. The easiest way to secure any toy material is to wrap in a soft cloth or bag after cleaning them.
Each toy should have their own bag/cloth.
Some have recommended ziploc bags for this purpose, but I’m not one of them. Ziploc bags are plastic and may react negatively to materials in your toy. And let’s be honest, they look pretty trashy.
Most sex toys come with a pouch, and these are perfectly acceptable for storage. However, if you’d like to get a little fancier, you can always purchase soft fabric and cut to fit each toy, hem the edges, and voila. Custom wraps for your toy!
You can always use a washcloth or towel you already own, too!
Now that you know how to treat them like the babies they are, where do you put them?
Where to Store Sex Toys
First things first, do not store any intricate sex toys in your bathroom. The humidity can damage sensitive controls and potentially even the material your toy is crafted from. If your storing a simple stainless steel or glass dildo, it will do fine in the bathroom.
If you’re just starting your toy collection and only have one or two, you can easily store them in your night table drawer.
But for those, like me, who don’t quite remember how many sex toys they currently own, you’re going to need a bigger box.
Discreet Sex Toy Storage
If you’re really trying to be secretive, there are products with hidden storage compartments that nobody will be suspicious of. Most of these won’t fit an entire collection, but are great for one or two toys. Here are some great options:
Under the Bed
Under the bed storage is the go-to for most people since it’s discreet and makes your toys easy to reach when needed. This can be easily accomplished in a few different ways depending on how fancy you want to be.
Dresser or Cube Storage
If you don’t have space under the bed, a dresser or cube storage organizer that sits in your bedroom is another common choice. These look like a normal storage space, nobody will guess your sex toy collection is inside.
Decorative Trunk or Storage Ottoman
If you’re looking for storage that fits in with your decor, a trunk or storage ottoman is a great option. You can find storage ottomans with sleeves inside for shoe storage that work perfectly for storing many types of sex toys!
Custom Box (or DIY)
When you inevitably arrive at epic toy ownership proportions, you can have a custom box made for your babies, or get creative and build your own storage.
My bed has a custom wooden frame that sits high off the floor, but due to the construction, you can’t use the underneath of the bed for storage. There are, however, slots on each side that a drawer would fit in perfectly.
So, we measured and had a drawer made to slide into the slot on my side of the bed. We also installed a charging station inside the drawer, so all of my sex toys are able to be stored and charging at the same time.
Sometimes you just have to get creative!
Bottom Line
Overall, sex toy storage isn’t too difficult as long as you take a few precautions. While sex toy ownership is one of the more fun parts of life, it does require some care and concern.
You want your favorite vibrating (or not!) boyfriend to last for years to come, so keep them clean and store them in a thoughtful way. They’ll take care of you, as long as you take care of them.
